Sport plays an enormously important part in the life of our school for all age groups. During Early Years this provides a basis for children’s development and health, both physical and mental.
At this stage, physical education helps develop children’s motor skills, promote muscle and bone development, and engender social and emotional skills, all of which are vital not just for their involvement in sports as they grow older, but also their wider education and wellbeing.
In Reception, children have two PE lessons per week, with one focusing on body control and muscle memory through gymnastics, dance, fitness and Pilates, while the other explores different ball skills such as throwing and catching and team work is introduced with interactive ball games. The children also have a swimming lesson each week in the school’s own indoor pool.
