  • Monday 1 July 2019 Boarding News On Tuesday evening, the Year 6s enjoyed their Year 7 boarding taster evening. It was enormous fun from beginning to end, with a delicious supper, followed by Year 7 quantities of tuck, games on the field and a water balloon fight.

  • Monday 1 July 2019 Year 5 Geography Over the course of the summer term, pupils in Year 5 have been learning about one of our most precious resources - water. Not only have the pupils been finding out some amazing facts about our use of water (did you know that it takes more than 2,500 gallons of water to make one pair of jeans?) they have also been addressing some pretty challenging philosophical questions.

  • Tuesday 25 June 2019 Geography - Air Tutor Group Presentation Pupils in AJG’s tutor group were treated to an excellent presentation on the history of the Massey-Ferguson tractor. Jack and Wilf really knew their stuff!
  • Tuesday 25 June 2019 Joint Geography & Science Trip to the River Brett On Monday 17 June, all of our Year 7 pupils took part in a joint geography and science field trip to the River Brett. We could not have picked a nicer day for our field trip in terms of the weather - plenty of sunshine and a cooling breeze.
  • Tuesday 25 June 2019 Year 8 Inter-Element Debate On Monday, all Year 8s took part in our Inter-Element Debating Competition, part of the Year 8 Challenge and a competition in its own right. The Elements competed for the prestigious Thorpe Cup for Element Debating, donated by Mrs Thorpe before her retirement last year.

  • Monday 17 June 2019 From the Headmaster.... I have spent the day on Barbour's Piece enjoying a wonderful Pre-Prep Sports Day. Whilst the sun graced us with its presence on occasion, it was not the most summery of days but this did not dint the enthusiasm, commitment and sportsmanship of our budding sportsmen and women from Nursery through to Year 3!

  • Monday 17 June 2019 Year 1 Pond Dipping 1SL went pond dipping this week. We founds lots of newts and larvae and dragonflies.
  • Monday 17 June 2019 Year 3 Reading Competition On Tuesday, Year 3 held their annual Reading Competition final. Everyone had entered stage one of the competition, where each pupil read a passage aloud to his or her class. Six finalists then read this passage, along with an unseen reading, to all of their year group and to the two judges, Mrs Taylor and Miss Prescott. The finalists were Benedict C, Benjamin R, Katie B, Ruben S, Lucie B and Mille S.
  • Monday 17 June 2019 Year 4 Geography After completing a demanding skills based assessment on OS map work, the pupils in Year 4 have been busy looking at settlements. What are they? What are the important site factors? What do place names mean?
  • Monday 17 June 2019 Year 4 Trip to France Last Friday morning was a very early start for our Year 4 pupils as they excitedly boarded the coach at 6.30 am ready for their two day trip to Stella Plage in France. We drove down to the Eurotunnel and boarded the shuttle and despite the rain and the delay, everyone was in good spirits, with several games of Top Trumps and Thumb War matches a-plenty to keep us going!
  • Monday 17 June 2019 Year 6 Walton-on-the-Naze On a warm and breezy Tuesday, pupils in Year 6 visited Walton-on-the-Naze on the east coast of Essex. As you would expect, we were there to study the coastal environment. Judith Metcalf, from the Essex Wildlife Trust, provided the educational guidance for the day.

  • Monday 10 June 2019 From the Headmaster.... We waved the Year 4s off this morning on their overnight trip to France and the Year 8s left later for Thorpe Park to mark the end of their exams. Upon their return, the Year 8s will embark on their 3 Challenge Weeks where they compete for the Hills Challenge Cup including Holmwood Bake Off, Dragons' Den, Bridge Building and the £50 Challenge amongst a range of other adventures and challenges. Following that, they will be off on their PGL trip to Shropshire.

The sun is out and the bank holiday weekend weather is looking ok, so enjoy some lovely time with your children and we look forward to seeing everyone in June when we will enjoy the annual range of Holmwood summer events.
  • Tuesday 4 June 2019 Pre-Prep Golden Awards Golden Awards are made weekly to individuals in each class based on the Golden Rules. Under these criteria, the awards are made for the whole term, the child receiving an annotated leaf which is placed on the Golden Tree for all to see.
