From the Headmaster….

Dear Parents,

We waved the Year 4s off this morning on their overnight trip to France and the Year 8s left later for Thorpe Park to mark the end of their exams.  Upon their return, the Year 8s will embark on their 3 Challenge Weeks where they compete for the Hills Challenge Cup including Holmwood Bake Off, Dragons’ Den, Bridge Building and the £50 Challenge amongst a range of other adventures and challenges.  Following that, they will be off on their PGL trip to Shropshire.

It was good to see the Year 3 parents on Tuesday evening at the transition to Year 4 information and drinks evening. We are very much looking forward to the children moving into blazers, carrying their new bags/rucksacks and moving independently around the school.

I am looking forward to seeing some of you on Tuesday evening next week at the Assessment workshop for parents. We aim to start at 7pm in the Jubilee Hall and an email has gone out asking you to sign up for the event and to indicate whether you require childcare for any children from Year 4 up.

The summer season really kicks off next week with the Pre-Prep Sports Day on Friday and the Annual School Fête on Saturday.  Please read your emails carefully regarding arrangements for these events. Preparations are well under way for both events which promise to be real highlights of the school year. I look forward to seeing you there.

We have a full house next Friday for our Big Boarding Night In!  In addition to the Harry Potter fun and frolics for pupils from Year 4 to Year 8, the Year 8s will be camping in the grounds!

The builders are making excellent progress in the Early Years building.  The Reception children are preparing questions to put to ‘Gary the Builder’ and they are looking forward to seeing the progress being made. They have already been shared photographs of the site.  Additionally in the Reception Garden, we have had to cordon off the little wooden house as Mrs Blackbird decided to build her nest in there over half term!  There are 5 eggs and the children are looking forward to seeing how these develop.  This is in addition to a collared dove’s nest in the building site and our blue tits in the Science Department nesting box which the children can see via the online camera.

With best wishes
