Une journée en France chez Holmwood!
Year 4 were treated to a fabulous French Day last Friday where they were able to experience a flavour of France chez Holmwood! There were plenty of fun packed activities for them to do during the day and they were even blessed with beautiful French sunshine.
After a jubilant group photo to start them off, the children had to successfully answer questions in French at our very own Contrôle des Passeports, to get their Carte d’Identité stamped before continuing with the events of the day.
Year 4 worked collaboratively in groups in the morning, trying to get as many items of vocabulary into their “valises”, using their STEM skills to construct La Tour Eiffel with tinfoil, spaghetti and marshmallows and then postcards of France showcasing their written talents. Breaktime was a delicious delight of a croissant and pain au chocolat for each pupil, all washed down with authentic French “jus de pomme”. Their picnic lunch in the warm sunshine was a real treat of baguette sandwiches, crudités, “Lays” crisps and Orangina from France.
Everyone settled in for a cosy film in the afternoon with ice-cream and popcorn in our Cinéma français session. And if that wasn’t enough, they were back on the field afterwards for a few friendly rounds of “Boules”.
The children ended their fantastic day by visiting “Le Magasin de Souvenirs” where they had to use their speaking skills to ask for and use Euros to purchase all the goodies to fill their gift bags. Everyone got a lovely certificate for taking part with such enthusiasm, engagement and enjoyment in what was such an enriching experience for them all.
