Dear Parents
The nights are drawing in! Our fairies are preparing for the Taster Morning tomorrow for over 30 children and families; and some volunteer parent fairies were in school yesterday helping to make props and costumes for the Pre-Prep Christmas productions. They were brilliant! Thank you so much.
We held interviews this week for the new caretaker position following John Moore’s announcement to retire at the end of this term. John has been caretaker at Holmwood for 15 years, is a stalwart of the school and we look forward to marking his retirement later in the term. Jamie Halls, groundsman, left us at half term to take up a senior groundsman’s role at one of New Hall School and we thanked him for the extremely high standards we have enjoyed for 4 years on our sports pitches. We were delighted to be able to replace him with Andrew Boyd who started last week. Andrew joins us with a raft of experience preparing sports pitches both in this country and abroad.
As Chairman of District 9 IAPS, I attended our termly meeting on Thursday in Wellingborough. The guest speaker, Nick Corston of Steam Co, inspired us all about the importance of creativity in schools and the need to ensure we value creativity as much as literacy and numeracy. He referenced one of my personal education heroes, Sir Ken Robinson, and I was reminded of his Ted Talk, How Schools Kill Creativity, which I commend to you all. Click here to watch it.
