Senior School Preparation
Preparation for Senior Schools
Support for Senior School Entry
Holmwood House has a long and proud record of sending children to a wide range of senior independent schools across the local area, Eastern region and nationally. We provide a 4-13 structure working ultimately towards an assessment framework at 13+ which includes the Holmwood House Certificate and Scholarship routes for the majority of pupils whose preparation for senior school entry is catered for within normal curriculum time.
The preparation of Holmwood House pupils for Scholarships to Senior Schools fall into two categories: Academic and Non-Academic.
Holmwood House Certificate
Pupils in Year 7 and 8 follow the Holmwood House Certificate which gives a broad picture of each individual child. In addition to the rigorous academic programme, the certificate also assesses a child's non-academic work, their personal development and their growth of learning skills in an imaginative, creative and collaborative way. Pupils produce an ongoing Learning Log in each subject; a portfolio of their learning in that area. With formative and summative assessments built in to help teachers and children measure their progress, all subjects follow a carefully-designed curriculum to ensure a well-balanced body of knowledge is acquired as well as a range of well-honed learning skills.
Our children leave Holmwood to go on to a wide range of senior schools, both boarding and day, with whom we enjoy tremendously supportive relationships.
